How to Save Tons at Target

When people start making memes about it, you know it’s officially a thing. So the next time you go into a Target, consider those memes your warning: it’s waaayyy too easy to overspend! Before you go, steel your nerves and consider these money-saving tips — so you don’t go in the store for one thing and come out $342 poorer.

1. Do a Cartwheel

No, really…it’s an app! Make sure you’ve downloaded and updated your Cartwheel app to help you claim every discount. It’s Target’s own app that saves you 5-50%, plus lets you accumulate reward points.

2. Coupons

Did you know there are 3 different kinds of coupons you can use at Target? Keep a lookout for their mailers for those coupons. Before you shop, search the Target’s website for printable coupons you’ll use every day. And if you’re not into downloading the Cartwheel app, you can still get coupons from Target via text. Also, look for the shelf tags that offer Target gift cards with that purchase.

3. Create a Wish List

If you have kids, download Target’s own Wish List app. This is where your kids can register for things they like for school shopping, gifts, Christmas, whatever. When you purchase items from that list, you save an extra 10%. Mind. Blown.

4. Shop Online

Target will often publish special coupon or promo codes for online purchases. Before buying anything online, do a Google search for these codes. You should also be using Ebates. Ebates offers a certain rebate for stores you shop with online, and Target is usually on their list. Do your regular shopping, and Ebates will send you a rebate check. This is great for holiday shopping!

5. Say “YES” at the Register

Now, we usually say no when asked if we’d like to save at the register by signing up for the Target Red Card. Most of us don’t need another credit card, so we immediately turn it down. But did you know they also offer a DEBIT card version with the same benefits? The only difference is it’s tied to your checking account, just like your regular debit card. You save 5% on everything (on top of the other discounts we see here), plus get free shipping on Target.com and an time to return purchases. Signing up is free.
